About two months ago a local acquaintance of mine, Denver Peacock, recommended that I check out Over the Rhine the next time they came to Little Rock. Last monday I finally had my chance when they played the Rev Room down on Clinton Ave. It was a rainy night but the show drew quite a crowd despite the weather. Denver was there with some friends as well as several VIPS from CJRW. He promised that if I didn't like the show he would reimburse my $12 cover (not necessary but OK, why not). The band was fantastic and this clip highlights one of my favorite tunes they played during the show last week. It's called "I'm on a Roll" and I hope you'll agree with my assessment that this is indeed a great song. Unfortunately, I had to leave before the performance was over but the next morning I found a text message from Denver asking me if he owed me the $12. Of course not but I have to admit I was impressed that 1) he noticed that I had left and 2) he was actually checking in to see if he needed to make good on his previous offer. I have a lot of respect for those that honor their commitments so, Denver, you earned a few bonus points with me last week. Enjoy basking in the glow of my appreciation.

On February 5 several tornados ripped through the state causing a large amount of damage to areas like Clinton and Atkins, AR. AYPN president, William Porterfield, sent out a mass e-mail the days following the storm in an effort to organize a team of young professionals from Little Rock to head north and help clean up the aftermath. My friend Pat Watson and I decided to join the effort. Early in the morning on February 9th we drove along with about 12 others to see what we could do. Once we made our way to the Atkins Fire Department we partnered with local fireman Mike Brown who proceeded to lead us to a home that had been damaged and we spent the next several hours cleaning up debris while also visiting with him and the owners about their experiences.
That morning, on a whim, I decided to bring my video camera with me as I was leaving my home. The following clip is just some of the footage I brought back from our adventure.

Last Tuesday I performed at the Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase, an annual music contest that highlights the local area performing songwriters. I've applied for the show for the past three years so I was thrilled that I actually got in this time. Although I did not win the contest this past week, I did feel that I put in a solid performance with my friend and favorite local guitarist Nick Devlin. You can check out a clip of all of the performers here. I'm about 3/4 of the way in this 15 minute clip. Local Hip-Hop artist "607" won the night.
